While Marcia Brady was the role that made Maureen McCormick famous, it didn't mean she was always thrilled to be a Brady.

McCormick joined the cast of The Brady Bunch when she was still just a child, and it was a decision that followed her for the rest of her life, in ways that were both good and bad.

"You can say that Marcia Brady has been both a help and a hindrance to me," said McCormick in an interview with Southam Newspaper. "After all, this is an industry where people would prefer to put you in a convenient box for all time."

It's true that after her time on The Brady Bunch, McCormick found herself ignored for future roles by casting directors who were unable to view her as anything besides Marcia Brady.

Still, the shortcomings didn't deter McCormick, who loved her craft enough to keep her head up and keep trying. "I learned the importance of just hanging in and not giving up," she said. "I love acting. I love creating. I love playing various characters. I was doing it long before the show began and always felt I would be able to come back again and work as an adult."

As an adult, McCormick was able to shed her Brady image, though the series still hasn't departed from the forefront of the public's minds. "After all, my daughter and her friends say The Brady Bunch is one of their favorite shows," she said.
