MeTV pays tribute to Cloris Leachman with some of her most memorable guest appearances
See her with Andy Griffith aboard the Love Boat and as Bill Mumy's mom in the Twilight Zone.
Hollywood legend Cloris Leachman passed away this week at the age of 94. She began her career in the late 1940s and continued working her entire life, giving her appearances on television in no less than eight different decades. MeTV will pay tribute to this TV icon with some of her most memorable guest appearances this Sunday, January 31, at 6PM | 5C, and Monday, February 1, starting at 11:30PM | 10:30C.
While finding fame in leading TV roles and scene-stealing film parts, Cloris Leachman also brought both her comedic timing and dramatic chops to many lucky shows as a guest star.
Our tribute kicks off on Sunday with her memorable turn alongside Andy Griffith in The Love Boat. Leachman and Griffith play a married couple who board the ship in search of a rare stamp. The two comedy heavyweights are willing to do anything to find it with hilarious results! It’s an overall star-studded episode with Marion Ross and Tom Bosley (Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham from Happy Days) also playing a married couple, Milton Berle as a tax auditor and Andy Warhol as himself.
Our tribute continues Monday with special episodes of Perry Mason and The Twilight Zone.
In the former, Leachman guest-stars in the penultimate episode, "The Case of the Crafty Kidnapper." She plays the wife of a murdered newspaper columnist who she suspected was having an affair. It's an intriguing story that culminates in a fantastic twist at the end.
In The Twilight Zone episode "It's a Good Life," Leachman plays the mother of a boy (Bill Mumy) with powerful psychic abilities. Interestingly, this would be the second of three times Leachman and Mumy would play mother and son in as many years. They both also reprised their Twilight Zone roles in a sequel episode "It's Still a Good Life" which aired in 2003. "It's a Good Life" is widely considered one of the best original Twilight Zone episodes, with Leachman’s performance being one of many reasons why.
