Feeling down? Take a dose of Carol Brady.

CBS Television Distribution

Are you feeling down and out? We've all had moments of self-doubt and sadness, and sometimes, you're just not strong enough to pull yourself away from these emotions all by yourself.

Have no fear; Mother Brady is here. During an interview with The San Francisco Examiner, Florence Henderson explained that she too had gone through dark periods in life, and had come out of the other side to offer a few words of wisdom.

Ultimately, Henderson advised that a complete change in perspective was necessary; instead of seeing these times as a moment of hardship, view them as an opportunity for introspection and reflection.

"Call them times for complete reevaluation," said the Brady Bunch actor. "They are almost a safety valve. There are times when you are made to face up to things wrong with your life."

Henderson was only human and was brutally honest about her own image issues, and the changes she made in her life to become a better person.

"It was hard for me to accept myself as a human being," she said. "I thought I had to be so super good. I realized finally I was one of the struggling masses. Now, I like to think I'm growing up a little bit."

Henderson explained that it wasn't necessary to be perfect; you just need to do the best job you possibly could with the tools you are given.

"When I was working my way through high school I was the best soda jerk, the best floor scrubber, the best mother's helper," she said. "Whatever it is, be the best."

In 1975's Smile, about a Californian teenage beauty pageant, a mother asks the talent show director if he thinks her daughter has a future in show business.
"Only if Florence Henderson dies."
