7 of 10, missed 2, 4 and 6. I couldn't believe I chose carbon-based when I knew it it's silicon-based.

9 of 10, missed 6 - the circulation pump

9,10, Got #6 wrong. I thought the circulating pump controlled the planet's atmosphere, that why the horta stole it. It didn't damage the nuc. reactor but knew which part to steal. Captain Dunsel, your opinion please.

8/10. Terrific episode.
Hungarian immigrant turned Hollywood stuntman Janos Prohaska created the Horta and operated it from inside. Janos created the creature first for an episode of The Outer Limits titled "The Probe." He later modified it for Star Trek.
During filming of this episode, William Shatner received word that his father had unexpectedly passed away. Leonard Nimoy was very supportive of Shatner during this sad time.
This episode was a rare case where the writer credited on screen, Gene Coon, was the only one to work on the script.
Writer David Gerrold ("The Trouble with Tribbles") felt that Gene Coon was the "heart and soul of Star Trek."
These Are The Voyages: TOS, Season One by Marc Cushman.

I remember this episode as a kid as the big rubber-vomit monster episode.

You're not that far off. The "Horta" started off as am alien "germ" in "The Probe", the final episode of the original 1960's series "The Outer Limits".

Looked like a pepperoni pizza on steroids to me.

Exactly. That's what it always reminded me of. A store-bought pepperoni and sausage pizza.
I remember that. I had the whole "Outer Limits" on video. A great show.
