How well do you know the career of Frank Sutton from 'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.'?

He had been acting for over a decade before playing Sgt. Carter on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

Frank Sutton was the perfect person to play the hard-nosed Sgt. Carter opposite Jim Nabors' goofy Gomer Pyle on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Sutton expertly portrayed the toughness and exasperation of the commanding officer but also occasionally revealed Carter's softer side.

But Gomer Pyle was not Frank Sutton's first job on television — far from it. He had already been acting professionally for over ten years by that point.

Was proud to get 12/12. My Uncle knew Frank Sutton, said he was a great guy. So sad he died at such a young age.

10/12. It would have been 11 except I forgot the back door pilot. Speaking of which, I'm surprised Sgt. Carter didn't recognize Andy Taylor in "Opie Joins The Marines" since they had already met in "Gomer Joins The Marines," and vice versa...

Just saw him along with Martin Milner in a movie, "Hurricane", an early 70's disaster movie, he played a man hosting a hurricane party with little regard to safety. Milner was the pilot of an Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft!

Sutton did an excellent episode of "Naked City', playing an escaped criminal. MeTV should bring back that series for another late-night run...
