When you came home from school in the '70s and '80s and flipped on the television, the lessons did not end. Thanks to programs like ABC Afterschool Special and CBS Schoolbreak Special, kids learned moral lessons from melodramatic short films that helped them navigate the minefield of adolescence. 

Often adapted from young adult novels, these afterschool specials were, frankly, pretty cheesy. They often came branded with sensational titles like My Dad Lives in a Downtown Hotel
