Christopher Knight's shocking reaction to The Brady Bunch cancellation
Or, maybe it wasn't so unexpected after all!

It's not easy being the middle child. Families tend to see the eldest sibling as mature, responsible and capable in ways the other kids are not. They're the only child that gets to be an only child, and even if it only lasts a while, it's a feeling that sticks around for life. The youngest child, on the other hand, has a freedom that's just not given to the other children. By the time it comes to their youngest kids, parents feel like they've seen it all. What's the worst that could happen? The middle child is afforded none of these luxuries and, instead, might even feel like the least favorite kid.
If growing up the middle child is hard, then playing one on TV is even worse. Christopher Knight, who portrayed Peter Brady from 1969-1974, certainly had a rough time with parts of his role and the ways it affected his life. Anybody would have. The Brady Bunch absorbed such a big portion of his world that it could've very well smothered him. As he transitioned into young adulthood and broke free of his earlier role, Knight began to understand the world that existed outside of The Brady Bunch.
At 24, Knight gave an interview with the Ossining, New York Citizen Register where he spoke at length of how being Peter Brady could be a bit of a drag.

"It went on a lot longer than anybody thought it would," Knight said of The Brady Bunch. But how could somebody revel in the cancellation of the biggest show in their career?
Knight explained: "It was perfect timing. I really didn't know if I wanted to stay in the business anymore. I was just a kid. I wanted to be treated like everybody else, play baseball and football and be with my friends.
"I wanted to be just a regular guy. After five years of playing Peter Brady, I said, 'God, I want to go out and do the things I want to do.'"
While he'd go on to appear in The Brady Brides and various other reunion material, Knight spent the rest of his acting career trying to disassociate himself from his most famous role.
