What words were created the year you were born?

"Bae" might be older than you.

Language is a funny thing. It's strange to think about how some words that you use every day didn't even exist before we were born, and it's even stranger to think about how old some words actually are.

We went through the painstaking process of going through Merriam Webster's Time Traveler to find out some of the most interesting words and phrases that found a place in print for the first time each year, starting in 1937.

What surprised you most about your list?
  1. What year were you born?

I was born in 1954, and I highly doubt that digitalizing and couponing were a thing back then.

I was born in 1970. The only word that I use that was created in 1970 is Bad hair day. I have had a few bad hair days. I thought that word was created in the 1980's!

Hangry dates to 1956???
Spell check doesn't even recognize it today.

Hangry are the folks on those Snickers commercials who don't revert back to their "real" selves {from being a celebrity;} until they've eaten a Snickers. {That's what Hangry means:" Being in a foul mood because you are hungry.}
The Hangry commercials are not the same as the celebrity commercials. That being said , what did you think about the rapper who became Elton John?
I know what it means. I just never heard it befire the last 10-15 years.

Me, too. And I couldn't remember my password and I couldn't get it emailed. Never happens with Disqus
Or we have to go through one of their quizzes/stories and figure out what/how many mistakes METV made!
I think all of us had to resign in today, another reason to go back to Disqus!!
