What words were created the year you were born?
"Bae" might be older than you.
Language is a funny thing. It's strange to think about how some words that you use every day didn't even exist before we were born, and it's even stranger to think about how old some words actually are.
We went through the painstaking process of going through Merriam Webster's Time Traveler to find out some of the most interesting words and phrases that found a place in print for the first time each year, starting in 1937.
What surprised you most about your list?

"Codswallop" is a word from 1963? This is the first time I've heard it!
Hangry dates to 1956???
Spell check doesn't even recognize it today.

Hangry are the folks on those Snickers commercials who don't revert back to their "real" selves {from being a celebrity;} until they've eaten a Snickers. {That's what Hangry means:" Being in a foul mood because you are hungry.}
The Hangry commercials are not the same as the celebrity commercials. That being said , what did you think about the rapper who became Elton John?
Game changer is one of the most over used phrase of all time.I hate when people say it.It shoud be outlawed. 99% of the ones on the1993,1992 list I never heard of.1991 I heard of gift card and bestie.90 I heard of mcmansion and twentsomething.All the years before that i'm familar with most of them.Guess I've been living under a rock for the last25 years.😄😄
Interesting. I had to sign in again.
I did last two times as well.Next thing you know we are gonna have to watch commercials before we take a quiz.
Me, too. And I couldn't remember my password and I couldn't get it emailed. Never happens with Disqus
Or we have to go through one of their quizzes/stories and figure out what/how many mistakes METV made!
