R.I.P. Suzanne Somers, Chrissy from Three's Company

The classic TV star was 76.

Actor and author Suzanne Somers has passed away. She was 76.

In a statement to NBC News, Somers' publicist, R. Couri Hay, confirmed that Somers passed away peacefully at home early Sunday, October 15th, 2023.

"Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family," the statement continued.

As revealed in a New York Times piece, Somers' cause of death was breast cancer. The publicist's statement to NBC included the detail that Somers "survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years."

Somers is best remembered by fans of classic TV for her role as Chrissy Snow on the sitcom Three's Company. In addition to that series, Somers was acclaimed for her portrayal of matriarch Carol Foster Lambert on Step by Step from 1991 to 1998.

Early in her career, a bit part in the nostalgic classic American Graffiti led Somers to guest roles in The Rockford Files, The Six Million Dollar Man, and later The Love Boat

In the 1990s, Somers was the spokeswoman for the Thighmaster, promoting the exercise equipment in a series of infomercials.

In addition to her acting work, Somers published several books, including two autobiographies, four diet books, and a volume of poetry.

Somers worked tirelessly as a public-facing cancer survivor, regularly sharing her struggle with the disease. In July, Somers took to Instagram to post about her ongoing battle.

"As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down,” Somers wrote. “I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter."

Her husband, Alan Hamel, remained by her side as an ever-supportive partner during her trying time.

"Alan has been by my side every step of the way. I can’t even explain how much he has done for me. If it’s even possible, we are even closer than ever,” she said. “My incredible family has been so supportive, and have helped so much by keeping the business running so you can still have access to all the wonderful products."

Let us not forget that she was in 44 episodes of "She's the Sheriff" in the late 1980's and the pool party girl who removed her bikini top in "Magnum Force" before the party goers were blown up. Rest in Peace, Miss Somers, you were an incredible lady!

I was sad and shocked when I read last night that she had died. I enjoyed watching her play Christmas "Chrissy" Snow on "Three's Company". I liked the first three seasons with the Ropers the most.

While I was not really a fan of hers, I wish her an eternal rest - at peace after having fought for her health for so long.

I've lost three friends to this miserable disease, and two more have beaten it (so far, thank God)... with one more getting her final chemo treatment today in the hope of an extended life...

Godspeed, Ms. Somers. You left us with an iconic character (Chrissy Snow) as well as a pop culture meme (Thighmaster). Three's Company trivia that probably everybody knows: The brunette that causes Jack to crash his bike in the show opening is Somers in a wig.
